The Monica’s Sweater is a sweater with a continuous set-in sleeves shoulder type construction, with a slight positive ease, and a slightly retro look inspired by the sweater worn by Monica Geller in the series “Friends” (season 7, episode 11: The one with all the cheesecakes). Take advantage of this striped sweater to dig into your leftover wool and make a multi-color version or a two-color version like the model for a more sober look. The stripes and bands can be different colors, given the technique used in this pattern, have fun!
Start by knitting a sample in the round in stockinette stitch to ensure your needle size.
SWEATER CONSTRUCTION
The first step will be to knit the collar in stockinette stitch. Subsequently, short rows will be made back and forth to raise the back higher than the front, at the same time, continuous set-in sleeves shoulder type increases will be put in place, more precisely, increases on each side of the shoulders to start, then raglan type increases to finish the yoke. Once the number of increases is made for your size, the sleeve stitches will be put on hold and the body will be knitted in the round. The sleeve stitches will then be picked up and then knitted in the round with decreases. The finishes are simple and without ribbing at the bottom of the sleeves and the sweater. Finally, the vertical stripes will be embroidered using the “duplicate stitch” technique.
